Use smart irrigation system this summer to conserve water, Dewa advises consumers in Dubai
Dubai: This summer, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has advised residents with home gardens to use smart irrigation systems, soil moisture sensors and automatic sprinkler adjustments to conserve water.
“To avoid over-evaporation, customers should use light sprinklers between 6pm and 8pm,” Dewa said on Monday as it shared tips with residential, commercial, industrial and government customers on how to reduce their usage of electricity and water.
LED vs conventional bulbs
Dewa has advised residents to use LED bulbs for indoor and outdoor lighting as they are more efficient than conventional bulbs. “They also release less heat and have a longer lifespan. Customers can also use dimmers and timers that control the use of lighting,” the utility authority added. It also recommended the use of light-detectors to switch off outdoor lightings during the day. Direct lighting is recommended for some parts of the room instead of the full room. Modern and smart systems are best to control and schedule lighting and AC using smart phones and devices.
TV and AC use
Dewa noted that adjusting the display settings, image contrast and brightness of television can also help reduce electricity. Using a thermostat enables setting the air-conditioner (AC) temperature and controlling the heat in the best possible way. Dewa added that maintaining the AC temperature at 24 degrees Celsius is ideal when one is indoors, while it can be set to 27 degrees Celsius or turned off when one is leaving the house.
