Kuwait: Central bank requested to ‘lift secrecy’ of ex-diplomat’s accounts

Cairo: Kuwait’s prosecutors have requested the country’s central bank to remove secrecy on local bank accounts of a former Kuwaiti ambassador, according to a media report.

The public prosecution has written to the central bank asking that the country’s anti-graft watchdog be provided with all data on deposits and debts of the unnamed diplomat and his underage children over the past four years, Al Qabas newspaper said.

The report did not give a reason for the prosecution move and what charges he faces. In recent years, Kuwait has ramped up its efforts to fight corruption.

Last year, the country’s top court sentenced a Kuwait ambassador to six years in prison and ordered his removal from post after convicting him in a case involving state money embezzlement.
