Sindh government’s Culture Department organised the exhibition at its newly established Sambara Art Gallery in Karachi. Member of Sindh Assembly, Faryal Talpur, who is also the President of Women Wing of Pakistan Peoples’ Party, inaugurated the exhibition.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Culture Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said the government had been doing its best to promote cultural and literary activities in the province.
MPA Faryal Talpur said some of the art pieces displayed reflected the mental stress and restlessness of the artists’ community during the lockdown period.
Director-General of the Culture Department, Sindh government, Abdul Aleem Lashari, said it was the first time that an art gallery had been established in the province under the official patronage.
Curator of the exhibition, Waheeda Baloch, said the exhibition was aimed at showcasing contemporary art work. She said the exhibition was unique in that it showcased the artistic work of both emerging and renowned senior artists in order to provide an opportunity to budding talent to learn from the experience of the seniors in the field. She said the history of Sindh was rich with manifestations of art and culture of the land, as reflected in the antiquities discovered from the archeological site of Mohenjo Daro.
The art exhibition will continue till March 28, 2021.
