A gas explosion tore through Pakistan's Supreme Court complex on Tuesday morning, wounding a dozen people and forcing authorities to seal off the country's top judicial facility.

The incident occurred around 10.55am in a canteen located in the building's basement level, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi confirmed to reporters. Twelve individuals were hurt in the blast, with two suffering critical injuries, he said.

The explosion's impact reverberated throughout the multi-story structure, Pakistani media reported, causing damage to various sections of the complex. In Courtroom No. 6, observers reported that portions of the ceiling gave way following the detonation.

Emergency responders quickly cordoned off the site as bomb disposal teams and criminal investigators worked to assess the scene and confirm the cause of the explosion.

Senior police officials, including IG Rizvi, DIG Security Muhammad Atiq Tahir, and SSP Operations Muhammad Shoaib Khan, arrived at the Supreme Court to evaluate security protocols and coordinate the emergency response.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blast at the high-security government compound.
