Sharjah Ruler raises social assistance threshold to Dh20,000 for 6,652 families

Sharjah: His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has raised the minimum monthly income threshold for families receiving social assistance to Dh20,000, benefiting 6,652 families across the emirate.

The directive, effective from September 1, 2026, will cost the Sharjah government Dh195,130,164 annually, Abdullah Ibrahim Al Zaabi, Chairman of Sharjah’s Department of Human Resources, said on the “Direct Line” programme broadcast by Sharjah Radio and Television.

The decent living standard for families benefiting from social assistance will be raised to a minimum of Dh20,000 a month in line with His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan's directive, Al Zaabi said.

The latest measure builds on a series of initiatives introduced by the Sharjah Ruler this year to strengthen financial support for eligible families and improve living standards.

In January, Sheikh Sultan approved measures to raise monthly social assistance to Dh17,500 for 4,237 beneficiary cases, at an annual cost of more than Dh404.9 million.

Sharjah has also introduced additional social assistance for eligible beneficiaries whose total monthly income falls below Dh17,500, subject to specified conditions.
