UAE issues strict exam rules with tough penalties

Dubai: Several schools across the UAE have introduced a new requirement for students to sign exam conduct pledges, committing to abide by strict behavioural policies designed to ensure fairness, integrity, and order during examinations, Al Khaleej reported.

Rules to maintain discipline

The pledges, distributed ahead of end-of-term exams, outline a series of rules aimed at maintaining a secure and disciplined testing environment. Students must:

  • Refrain from causing disturbances inside or outside examination halls

  • Avoid bringing electronic devices, including smartphones and smart earphones

  • Not deliberately damage exam papers

Cheating and misconduct strictly prohibited

Schools emphasised that cheating or assisting others in any form is strictly forbidden, as is leaking exam questions or participating in related activities. The pledges also stress:

  • Maintaining respect towards all staff members

  • Prohibiting arguments, verbal abuse, or physical altercations before, during, or after exams

  • Banning impersonation or forgery of official school documents

Disciplinary measures

Violations will be met with firm disciplinary action under Ministry of Education regulations:

  • First violation: 12 behaviour points deducted, zero grade in the affected subject, barred from makeup exams, and guardian notified

  • Repeat violations: additional 12-point deduction, zero in all subjects, disqualification from makeup exams, and referral to the Student Behaviour Evaluation Committee

Parents urged to reinforce values

School administrators urged parents to support the measures by reinforcing honesty, integrity, and responsibility at home. They highlighted that adherence to exam regulations is the foundation of academic success, and that a culture of discipline and fairness is essential to fostering excellence in education.
