Dubai: The Dubai World Cup, world's richest horse racing event, on Saturday unfolded at Meydan as both a major sporting event and a lively social and fashion spectacle. It was celebrating its 30th anniversary and the mood was upbeat as thousands of horse and fashion enthusiasts soaked up the clear skies and sunshine on Saturday afternoon.

The gates to the sprawling Meydan racecourse opened at 1pm and by 4pm, the lush gorgeous Apron Views and racing stands quickly filled with a sea of fascinators, floral dresses and sharply styled race-day looks.

Go bold or go home, the style mantra at DWC 2026

The mood this year at the Dubai World Cup exuded this when glamour-met-grit vibe and carried an unmistakable emotional undercurrent, one of resilience, unity, and quiet strength.

It was a feeling that left Becky Page visibly moved. She was dressed in a tailored blue body-con dress with exaggerated sleeves and a fuchsia floral headpiece designed by an Australian designer.

Fighting back tears as she looked around, she said simply, “To see your beaming faces dressed to impress is the ultimate show of solidarity as the region faces uncertain times."

But the robust footfall was their way of paying it forward to this incredible country, she added.

“Dubai feels very unified at this time and it feels amazing to see so many people smiling, laughing and uniting during what has been a very upset time,” she added.

“It really shows in the energy that’s here, this place is about resilience and strength, and being a united front while continuing to show up every single day.”

She summed up the moment with quiet optimism: “After the storm comes clear skies, so I think it’s really impressive that we are blessed and honoured to be here and it feels that way today.”

Emirati actress Mahira Abdel Aziz also told Gulf News that the turnout at DWC was a resounding answer to all the 'naysayers of Dubai'.

"The unity of the community is what you see today! Sorry, all naysayers, we will be a united community and Dubai will always remain like this! We will remain united and this Dubai World Cup is proof," she said.

The mood was equally vibrant and festive across Apron Views and General stands, where you could spot many placing their hopes on their favourite horses.

"I love horses and attending the Dubai World Cup every year is an annual tradition. Those horses are magnificent and the atmosphere is always electric. This year feels even better," said Arthur Wilson.

Meanwhile, the Style Stakes corner was also the most vibrant. Jenny, who had just registered for the fashion contest, let us in on a secret.

“I actually found my whole look through ChatGPT,” she said. “It put everything together for me — and I think it did a wonderful job.”

She wore a skater-style floral lavender dress paired with a purple fascinator — simple, coordinated and in keeping with the day’s style.

Nearby, a first-time attendee Irene had taken inspiration from the hit Hollywood romance Pretty Woman.

“It’s my first time at the Dubai World Cup and it was my dream to attend the world’s richest races,” she said.

“I live in Dubai, but I’ve always loved the vibe and atmosphere of these kinds of events.”

Horse racing, she added, has long been a passion. “I love it… so when I saw this, I was like — we have to go.”

She also addressed concerns some had about attending. “For me, I feel safe here. Dubai is the most incredibly safe city I have ever lived in,” she said.

She and her friend Roberto coordinated their outfits around the hit romance starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

Sabrina, visiting from Germany, was also attending for the first time.

“I’m a tourist, and I feel incredibly safe in this country. This is such a fun event that mixes sports and fashion so seamlessly,” she said.

She was also competing in the Style Stakes, wearing a dress from ASOS and a fascinator from Amazon.

A celebration of style as much as sport at Dubai’s biggest race day.

Around the venue, stilt performers in glittering gold outfits played violins, while saxophonists and jazz musicians set the scene and welcomed the guests.

Photo booths drew steady crowds, and many queued to register for the Style Stakes hoping to win some luxurious prizes.

As Anastasia, who was dressed in a white Jovani dress, put it: 'Dubai World Cup is the ultimate fashion and racing event in our social calendar of 2026 and it's the only place to be in Dubai this Saturday."
