UAE: Can I put a 50 per cent tint on my car’s windows?
Dubai: Want to tint your car’s windows? Having a slight tint on your car can be a great way to beat the heat and reduce the carbon footprint of your vehicle as the amount of energy needed to cool it can reduce with the use of a tint film.
However, there are certain rules that need to be adhered to, which have been put in place by traffic authorities in the UAE to ensure road safety.
What is the maximum limit to the car window tint?
As per the UAE Traffic Law, the maximum level of tinting on car windows can be 50 per cent. In a recent advisory on its social media channels, Abu Dhabi Police also specified which window panels in a car can be tinted up to 50 per cent – the side and rear windows are the only ones that can have a tint up to 50 per cent.
As reported by Gulf News earlier motorists are allowed to stick tint films on car windshield up to 15cm from the top.
What is the fine for exceeding the window tinting guidelines?
There are various fines for violating car window tinting rules, as per the awareness message by Abu Dhabi Police.
1. Increasing the percentage of tinting the vehicle’s windows, over what is authorised – Dh1,500.
2. Applying a window tint on a vehicle that is not allowed to be tinted – Dh1,500
3. Writing phrases or placing stickers on the vehicle without a permit – Dh500
