Dubai: Countries participating in the Abu Dhabi Dialogue have emphasised their keenness.

The countries said they would boost cooperation through four themes that target the implementation of guidance and awareness programmes, enhancing joint control and government supervision for countries sending and receiving the workers, as well as cooperating in the recruitment of domestic workers.

The statement was in the final communique of the senior officials meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The meeting was attended by the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam, in addition to other countries holding the status of observers: Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Switzerland.

Also in attendance were officials from the International Organisation for Migration, International Labour Organisation, United Nations Women, and others.

The UAE delegation was led by Dr Omar Al Nuaimi, assistant undersecretary for Communication and International Relations at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Dr Al Nuaimi said that the meetings’ outcomes are a road map for advancing the multi-faceted bilateral cooperation between the Abu Dhabi Dialogue nations.

He said that the meetings held in Sri Lanka, the current president of Abu Dhabi Dialogue, touched on multiple topics on cooperation and the development of shared guidance programmes for temporary workers and e-programmes for joint government supervision on recruitment and employment practices.

He pointed out that the outcomes will be presented during the fifth Abu Dhabi Dialogue ministerial consultative meeting, paving the way for drawing up a general framework that can oversee initiatives resulting from the guidance programmes for workers. The outcomes will also help set up a mechanism for the electronic recruitment and employment systems, which can support early communication between the employer and employee, resulting in more transparency.

The UAE is currently cooperating with the Philippines and Sri Lanka to implement two guidance and awareness programmes for employees. The UAE is also cooperating with Philippines in setting up an electronic platform for that is being develop to bolster joint government supervision on practices of recruitment and employment in the two nations.
