ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) to constitute a full-court probe commission to look into the allegations levelled by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan following an attack on his life in Wazirabad on November 3.

“I humbly request the Chief Justice of Pakistan to kindly constitute a high-level commission of all the judges—senior and junior— of the apex court and conduct a thorough investigation into Imran’s allegations so that the matter could be resolved once for all,” Sharif said while addressing a news conference in Lahore

“I assure you that I will not only join the proceedings but will also quit politics if proven to be part of any conspiracy against Imran Khan,” he declared.

The same commission will be requested to probe Arshad Sharif’s murder in Kenya it was later decided during a meeting chaired by the prime minister.

Earlier, while replying to the questions of the media persons, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif couldn’t conceal his irritation at Khan’s post-attack address to the nation and called it a pack of lies.

“Imran Khan’s statement involving me, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and a senior officer of the intelligence agency is false, unfounded and baseless,” he said.

Punjab government responsible for security breach

Sharif raised doubts on the decision of shifting Imran Khan from Wazirabad to Shaukat Khanam Hospital after the attack and asked why a medical report was not obtained by a government-run hospital to authenticate the bullet wounds.

He also called into question the performance of the Punjab government, the police and the provincial law-enforcement agencies which were primarily responsible to provide security cover to Imran Khan. “When the PTI is in power in Punjab, how can we (the federal government) be held responsible for Imran Khan’s security breach?” he said.

This is not an appropriate time to ‘expose’ the lies of Imran Khan but I was compelled to do so as, unfortunately, his party and he are bent upon making false allegations without waiting for the investigation, rather without even registering an FIR, said Sharif.

“The attack is condemnable, however, when the nation is being misled by false narratives, it is my duty to make things clear and caution the people against creating division between the people and the state institution,” he said and urged the PTI chief to present evidence to support his allegations.

Action on cards against Imran

The federal government in the wake of a request by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) to take notice of Imran Khan and his party men’s false campaign of maligning the forces, has decided to initiate legal action against Imran Khan and other PTI leaders.

A panel of senior lawyers and government representatives has been constituted to look into various options for registering a case against them.

Hours after Imran had addressed the nation from the hospital on Friday and accused the PM, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a senior officer of the intelligence agency of hatching a conspiracy to eliminate him the ISPR had issued a strongly worded statement, rejecting the “baseless and irresponsible” allegations by the PTI chairman against the military.

Islamabad admin against PTI sit-in

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has moved a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) requesting the court to dismiss the PTI’s plea for permission to stage a public rally/sit-in in the federal capital.

Advocate General of Islamabad Jahangir Khan Jadoon in his plea has asked the court to dismiss the PTI’s request for a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to stage its rally/sit-in in Islamabad.

Jadoon stated in the petition that according to the reports forwarded by the security agencies, there was serious threat to Imran Khan’s life and keeping in view the threat element, the administration could not allow the PTI to hold its rally or sit-in in the federal capital.
