Umm Al Quwain: Six Indian sailors were rescued from a burning tugboat on Thursday night, an official from Coast Guard confirmed.
The Marine Unit received an alert at 8.30pm that a fire had broken out in the engine room of a tugboat about 9 nautical miles from Sharjah shores. Fishermen at sea at the time witnessed the incident and reported it to the authorities .
The fire had spread throughout the whole tugboat and had also destroyed the boat’s safety equipment.
Coast guard boats rescued the sailors trapped on the burning tugboat. All the Indian sailors have been handed over to Sharjah authorities for interrogation.
