Dubai: If you have a residency- or labour-related legal problem in Dubai and need advice, then download the smart phone application of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and raise the issue on the app.

The Smart Legal Adviser launched in January 2016 provides legal advice to people in a quick and efficient way. The service provides legal assistance to people facing issues with temporary work permits, absconding complaints, deposit refund, among others. Individuals can also raise issues like arbitrary termination, appeal absconding complaints and passport seizure, apply for renewing and cancelling residency permits.

Major-General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director-General of GDRFA Dubai, praised the efforts in the directorate’s legal affairs department which had managed to address the public’s legal problems in a quick and easy manner.

“It’s a smart service launched in January 2016, and it provides legal advices to individuals. Officials respond within 48 hours now. The response time will be brought down to a few minutes in future,” Maj-General Al Merri said.

A group of officers who have degrees in law handle the requests. “Anyone can use the service even from outside the country without the need to come to our department,” he added.

A legal adviser with GDRFA Dubai, Colonel Ali Al Zaabi, said the app service has received 3,024 requests since the launch.

“We are looking to shape the future by changing our legal system from the traditional style to the modern smart style to help our customers save time,” Col Al Zaabi said.
