There is an issue that has concerned me for a while — children cycling on the roads. It can be dangerous, as accidents can occur. I have witnessed many children cycling dangerously.

I have enjoyed cycling from a very young age. It is a healthy sport but can be dangerous if the cycle is not handled properly.

I learnt cycling at the age of five and have been a keen cyclist in the UAE and in my home country, India. I find it is a sport that reduces anxiety and depression, and keeps you fit.

On my last visit to India, I was preparing to go on a bike ride. However, I was unaware that right outside our house was a road. I almost got hit.

A few days ago, I was going to the grocery in my residential area in Sharjah to get some things and suddenly saw two young boys racing on their cycles on the very same road in which, I was walking. Their sudden appearance startled me, but I thanked God that I didn’t get hit by the young cyclists.

We must ride bicycle at a slow pace and only increase our pace once we get familiar with the path we are riding on. This way, we can avoid accidents and injuries. Riding a cycle without a helmet is also very dangerous and should be made mandatory in all countries.
