Liberal creativity and artistic experimentation are upon us as the Cruise season opens in Mexico, which is just the right blend of exotic and familiar to stir up fantasies of incredible far-flung experiences.

Distant and exciting locations have recently come to be expected from the world’s most iconic Maisons when it comes to premiering Cruise collections, and Maria Grazia Chiuri took it to heart, collaborating with local artisans all over southern Mexico to showcase traditional embroidery craftsmanship in her latest Dior collection.

Inspired by famed artist Frida Kahlo, the Dior Cruise 2024 show was presented in Mexico City in a courtyard of a school founded in the 16th century. The Baroque set welcomed guests like musician Alicia Keys and actress Naomi Watts.

Frida Kahlo’s art tied to feminine attributes truly inspired Chiuri’s work, with several pieces taken straight our of Kahlo’s wardrobe as well as her paintings including self-portraits, and others inspired by the artist’s exploration of her masculine side - think cowboy boots and oversized silver accessories made by hand.

Here we’ve picked out some of our favourite looks from Mexico City that truly embody the lengths Chiuri went to in order to create the artisanal craftsmanship theme for the Dior Cruise ’24 collection, and to perfectly reflect the stoic identity of Frida Kahlo. Enjoy the gallery…
