Dubai: Some celebrities have the uncanny ability to light up a room, while others bring along thunderstorms. Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, we discovered, believes she belonged to the latter category.
“No kidding. These days wherever I go, it just starts raining,” said Sinha with a laugh on in Dubai Thursday afternoon, as strong winds and a downpour swept the UAE.
Actor Shahid Kapoor, the hero in the forthcoming film R... Rajkumar, seconded her dubious claim.
“I can vouch for that. There’s more to her than meets the eye,” he added with a conspiratorial wink. But before you take them seriously, they were just having some fun as they promoted their action drama, directed by choreographer and director Prabhu Deva. Dubbed as South India’s Michael Jackson, a title bestowed on him due to his elastic dance movements, the director has delivered Bollywood hits including Wanted and Rowdy Rathore.
“Working with Prabhu sir was different. I have never come across a person like him. He’s intimidating but in a good way,” said Kapoor. He plays an uncouth, uneducated boy who works for a drug dealer. He takes on an assignment to kill his boss’s rival but ends up falling in love with a girl from the target’s family.
“It was a challenging film. The best part about Prabhu Deva sir is that his heroes are not superheroes and he doesn’t use technology like fast cars and gadgets to show their strength,” said Kapoor.
“But I broke many bones by the end of it all,” he said with a laugh.
The film was originally entitled Rambo Rajkumar but the Bollywood team altered the title fearing a lawsuit from the owners of the rights to the Sylvester Stallone series.
“Rambo people got insecure about it,” joked Kapoor when asked about his thoughts on the name change.
“We didn’t think it was going to be a problem in the beginning. But when we realised it was going to be one, we decided to play safe ... Until, a week ago I didn’t know what ‘R’ in ‘R... Rajkumar’ stood for” said Kapoor.
R ... Rajkumar releases in the UAE on December 5.
