Abu Dhabi: In a tribute to the green city of Abu Dhabi and to the trees which give energy to life, the French ambassador to UAE Alain Azouaou on Thursday evening inaugurated a photography exhibition 'Trees of Eternity' by renowned French photographer Suzanne Held, at Al Wahda Mall in the capital.

The exhibition features 15 large size pictures of trees, digging their roots into the most inhospitable places: in the middle of the desert, on the slopes of volcanoes and between mountain rocks.

They show that nature is capable of anything, provided mankind learns to care for it and make an ally of it.

"Trees are energy of life they grow even in bad conditions giving us strong inspirations and power to keep going," Held told Gulf News. Held, 84, has travelled around the world as a photographer and a special correspondent for prestigious magazines for 40 years.

"I visited India around 40 times and Japan for about 20 times chasing precious moments in nature," she said.

Held still uses a regular Canon Camera. "Digital cameras do not give me the clarity I want when enlarging the images," she said.

The exhibition includes photos of maple, bamboo, pine and palm trees and forests in France, Japan, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Seychelles, Tanzania and elsewhere.

The exhibition will continue until May 16, and is part of Saison Francise (French Season), a month-long festival that celebrates the French-UAE partnership with a series of business, cultural and entertainment events.
