Emirates Glass, along with the other two glass manufacturing units within Dubai Investments group, will form a holding company to deal with the entire range of glass products, said Khalid Bin Kalban.

Khalid Bin Kalban
"We want to create a world-class one-stop-shop for all glass requirements and the new entity will be able to meet all glass requirements in the region." said Kalban, CEO and managing director of Dubai Investments, which has 28 companies in its fold.

Kalban was explaining the expansion plans for Emirates Glass which is one of the first companies in the group.

Emirates Glass makes architectural glass which is currently in great demand due to the boom in the UAE's construction industry.

The company, which has already invested $10 million (Dh36.7 million) in its first phase, is in the process of investing another $10 million which will see the company's coating capacity growing from 80,000 square metres to 3 million square metres.

The overall annual capacity of both phases of Emirates Glass, will be more than 6 million square metres.

"There are doubts raised in certain corners whether Emirates Glass can meet all market requirements. I want to tell them that the company can very well meet any amount of demand from the market."

Kalban added that Emirates Glass, which accounts for 70 per cent of the market in Dubai, will complete its expansion before the end of the year.

"Throughout the entire Middle East and indeed the world, airport construction and expansion of related facilities are already contributing substantially to the tremendous growth prospects for us," Kalban added.

Emirates Glass invested over Dh16 million in October last year in state-of-the-art equipment, which is recognised as the largest tempering furnace in the world.

This has already tripled production capacity at the company's glass manufacturing plant in Dubai.

Emirates Glass already manufactures EmiCool, EmiCool Plus and EmiCool Sun which are high performance coated glass products that are used widely throughout the region and beyond.

The EmiCool Comfort System is a large range of custom-designed solar and thermal control glass providing generous levels of daylight while giving superior control of heat gain or heat loss in accordance with the climate.
