Women among new prosecutors appointed in Saudi Arabia
King Salman orders appointing 156 appointed prosecution investigators
Cairo: Saudi King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz has ordered appointing 156 new prosecution members including women, Saudi media reported Tuesday, the latest in steps aimed at empowering women in the kingdom.
The 156 have been appointed as public prosecution investigators.
The royal order has drawn praise from Saudi chief prosecutor Shaikh Saud Al Muajab, who said it aims at deepening stability of public prosecution in the country.
The official also highlighted attention being accorded by the kingdom's leaders to promote women's presence in public service.
"The woman enjoys high prestige and a lofty position as the wise leadership has given her the chance of working in the judicial field in public prosecution," Al Muajab said in a statement.
He added that the latest royal move boosts women's contribution to serving the country in line with the Saudi Vision 2030, an ambitious development plan launched by the kingdom in 2016.
In recent years, Saudi Arabia has endeavoured to enhance women's empowerment. In 2018, the kingdom allowed women to drive for the first time in its history, as part of wide social and economic reforms championed by young Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.
