UNESCO chief visits Saudi Arabia heritage site Al Turaif
Azoulay met with deputy culture minister and head of authority for artifical intelligence
Dubai: UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay visited the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture in Al-Turaif district in Al Diriyah, Thursday, and was received by Deputy Minister of Culture Hamid bin Mohammed Fayez.
During the visit, the officials discussed ways of cultural cooperation.
Azoulay also met with the head of the Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence Dr. Abdullah Sharaf Al-Ghamdi, who gave a presentation on the role of the authority and its vision of the future of culture, arts and education in light of the rapid developments, and the goals of the World Summit on Artificial Intelligence that the Kingdom will host in late March were discussed.
During her visit, Azoulay toured the Al Turaif neighourhood in Al Diriyah — a national heritage site and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
About Al Turaif
It is regarded as one of the important political and historical sites in Saudi Arabia and was once the capital of the Saudi dynasty.
It was the original home of the Saudi royal family and the country’s first capital, from 1744 to 1818.
Al Turaif District was founded in the 15th century bearing an architectural style of Al Najd.
It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2010.
