Syrian woman gives birth to quadruplets at Haj
Riyadh: A Syrian woman, attending the annual Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, has given birth to quadruplets in the holy city of Makkah, the official Saudi news agency SPA reported on Friday.
The 23-year-old woman felt the birth pans after a 34-week pregnancy. She was transferred to a gynecology and obstetrics hospital in Makkah where she underwent a Caesarean operation, the agency reported. She gave birth to two baby boys and two girls. The quads were taken to a neonatal intensive care unit as they weighed between 1,300 to 1,800 grams, according to the agency.
Two of the newborns are in good and stable condition while the two others suffer from a minor respiratory problem, the Saudi Health Ministry said. The two are under observation and put on ventilation machines as they receive intravenous feeding, it added.
Some 2.4 million Muslims performed this year’s Haj, according to official Saudi figures. The annual pilgrimage season ended on Tuesday.
