Cairo: Saudi-led Arab coalition forces today intercepted and destroyed three explosive unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched by Yemen’s Al Houthi militia in the direction of the kingdom, an alliance official has said.

The UAVs were monitored after they had been fired by Al Houthis from Yemen’s western governorate of Hodeida, spokesman for the coalition Turki Al Maliki added, according to the Saudi news agency SPA.

The official accused the rebels of continuing to violate a ceasefire agreement brokered by the UN for Hodeida signed in Switzerland in 2018.

Real threat

“The terrorist Al Houthi militia continues to use Hodeida for launching hostile acts and terrorist operations by firing ballistic missiles, explosive UAVs and explosive boats in a way posing a real threat to regional and international security and undermining political efforts of the Stockholm agreement,” he said.

Al Houthis plunged Yemen into a devastating conflict after they toppled the internationally recognised government and overran the capital Sana’a in late 2014.
