Saudi Arabia urges solution to Palestinian issue after ceasefire
Cairo: Saudi Arabia has welcomed a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas faction in the Gaza Strip after 11-days of fighting, and hoped for concerted efforts for a “fair settlement” of the Palestinian issue.
An Egyptian-brokered truce took effect between Israel and Hamas on Friday, ending the worst violence between both sides in years.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry praised efforts made by Egypt and other international parties to reach the ceasefire.
Fair solution
The kingdom reiterated its pursuit of endeavours with other countries to reach a fair solution to the Palestinian issue in a way fulfilling “aspirations of the brotherly Palestinian people” to set up their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital according to international resolutions and a 2002 Arab peace plan.
Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, meanwhile, condemned Israeli attacks and measures in Jerusalem and Gaza, the Saudi news agency SPA reported.
In a phone call to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the Saudi monarch reiterated Saudi efforts at all levels to stop Israeli measures and attacks in Jerusalem by contacting influential parties to pressure Israel, SPA added.
