Saudi Arabia: Three Egyptian nationals arrested over battery thefts
Stolen items worth SR200,000 recovered, suspects face prosecution
Cairo: Saudi police have arrested three expatriates involved in stealing batteries and an electric generator worth SR200,000, a security official has said.
The Egyptian nationals all in their 40s were found to have been involved in stealing 14 batteries and a generator linked to communication pylons in the Saudi north-western region of H’ail, spokesman for the local police Capt Tarek Al Nasar added, according to the Saudi news agency SPA.
The stolen items have been recovered, according to the official. “They were arrested and referred to public prosecution,” he said. The incident is the latest in a series recently uncovered by Saudi authorities.
Earlier this week, four migrant workers were arrested on suspicion of stealing copper cables worth SR70,000 from under-construction buildings in the governorate of Hafr Al Batin in eastern Saudi Arabia.
Last week, police in the capital Riyadh busted a gang of seven Sudanese expatriates for allegedly having stolen copper cables worth SR800,000.
