Saudi Arabia: Students to start 2nd semester online
Distance learning is extended for 10 more weeks to limit COVID-19 spread
Cairo: About 6 million students Sunday started their second semester studies online in Saudi Arabia as part of efforts to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus. Schools will also begin distributing about 62 million textbooks at different education levels and the deliveries will be coordinated with parents to observe anti-virus precautions. Guidelines will be provided to students on making optimal use of online learning platforms.
According to the Saudi remote education system, lessons are explained via the Madrasty platform and a set of television and YouTube channels as well as an education portal linked to the Education Ministry. Last week Saudi education authorities announced extending the distance learning implementation for school and university students until the 10th week of the second semester as part of precautions against COVID-19.
The Education Ministry said that a royal decree has been issued to continue the distance education at levels of public, university education in line with the mechanism followed since the start of the current school year to protect students' safety.
In recent weeks, Saudi Arabia has seen a significant drop in COVID-19 infection rates amid strict precautions and mass vaccinations against the highly infectious disease.
