Saudi Arabia: One-year jail term, fine up to SR1m for trademark counterfeiting
Penalty to be slapped on all those who violate Trademark Law: ministry spokesperson
Dubai: The Saudi Ministry of Commerce announced that those who are involved in trademark counterfeiting face a one-year jail term or fine up to SR1 million or of both.
Abdul Rahman Al Hussein, the ministry’s spokesperson, said that the penalty will also be slapped on all those who violate the provisions of the Trademark Law, such as those who forge registered trademarks or whoever exhibits, sells, or possesses products bearing a forged or counterfeit trademark. He said this while replying to queries through the ministry’s Twitter account.
Meanwhile, the ministry’s inspection teams carried out 24,471 visits during last week to monitor the compliance of coronavirus precautionary measures and preventive protocols by the commercial establishments, stores, and sales outlets in all regions of the Kingdom.
The inspections revealed 856 violations, including allowing entry to those without wearing masks, not making available sanitizers and sterilizers in the designated areas, and not arranging the facility to measure temperatures of employees and customers at the entrances. Punitive measures have been taken against the violations.
