Cairo: A motorist in the Saudi port city of Jeddah has been arrested for putting his Snapchat account in place of the rear number plate of the vehicle, traffic authorities said.

The arrest came in response to a Twitter alert to authorities from a citizen who posted a picture of the violating car. The complainant also reported to authorities the front number plate of the white Landcruiser.

The Saudi General Department of Traffic tweeted that the suspected motorist had been arrested and will be penalised according to regulations.

Driving a car with a damaged or unlicensed number plate is an offence in Saudi Arabia punishable by a maximum fine of SR2,000.
