Cairo: Saudi traffic authorities have launched an electronic authorisation service targeting visitors wishing to drive in the kingdom.

The service, provided via the Saudi Interior Ministry’s platform, allows auto rental offices to get authorisation documents for the visitors electronically, reported Saudi news portal Sabq.

The service is designed to save time and effort for visitors without the need to check with traffic departments to obtain the authorisation and give car rental offices access to an automatic service.

Football fans and tourists visiting the kingdom during the World Cup in Qatar stand to benefit from the new service.

The step is also part of Saudi Arabia’s digital transition plans, facilitating availability of different services for citizens, expatriates and visitors.
