Saudi Arabia: Car crashes into shopping centre in Mecca
Cairo: A young man lost control while driving his car which then plunged into a shopping centre in the Saudi holy city of Mecca, according to a local media report.
The car swerved off the road Thursday evening and hit the entrance of the centre in Mecca’s district of Wadi Jalil, causing damage, news portal Sabq reported.
No casualties resulted from the accident.
The mishap occurred while there were no pedestrians on the street and shoppers inside the centre were not harmed, the report said.
Police were alerted about the accident and embarked on legal procedures against the motorist.
In recent years, Saudi authorities have toughened traffic penalties in an attempt to curb road crashes, mainly blamed on reckless driving.
