Saudi Arabia: 6 months jail, SR100,000 fine for dealing in fireworks
Public prosecution says they cause bodily harm and trigger dangerous incidents
Cairo: Smuggling, manufacturing and dealing in fireworks in Saudi Arabia are punishable by up to six months in prison and a fine of SR100,000, Saudi prosecutors have earned.
The kingdom’s public prosecution said that fireworks cause bodily harm and trigger dangerous incidents.
“Dealing in fireworks is prohibited in cases other than those stipulated by the law due to their bodily harms and dangerous incidents,” it said in a statement.
Prosecution defined fireworks as a chemical compound prepared to cause a bang along with visual forms or smoke such as fireworks and flares.
Maximum fine
“Smuggling firecrackers into the kingdom, manufacturing or trading in them is punishable by up to six months in prison and a maximum fine of 100,000 riyals,” it added.
Firecrackers, including fireworks and flares are usually used in celebration of holidays and festivities. Several countries have banned them, while others have prohibited their use without a permit for safety and environmental reasons, including resulting casualties and pollution.
