Abu Dhabi: Three Yemenis were arrested for a cash-in-transit armed heist attempt in Jeddah, a security official said.

Members of a security company in Jeddah were transporting money in a truck, when the suspects, in their 20s and 30s, ambushed them at gunpoint, a Mecca Police spokesperson said.

“Two men shot a private security guard before they robbed SR1.5 million and ran away. A third provided a shelter to the robbers,” the spokesperson added.

The police raided their residence, arrested the three and recovered SR1.475 million found in their possession. A gun was also seized, police said.

The suspects were taken into custody and will be moved to the Public Prosecution pending trial, police said.
