Massive unlicensed project delinked to Saudi Vision 2030
Contested project was touted as planning hotels, entertainment joints in eastern city
Cairo: Saudi Arabia Sunday said that a project, using the emblem of the country’s ambitious development plan “Saudi Vision 2030, is unlicensed and will face legal action.
Over the past days, a project dubbed “The Kingdom’s Island” was heavily publicised, as a large-scale scheme featuring hotels and entertainment facilities in Saudi Arabia’s eastern city of Al Khobar.
“The so-called Kingdom’s Island is unlicensed, violates the observed systems in the country and has nothing to do with the projects of Saudi Vision 2030,” the Saudi news agency SPA reported, quoting an official source.
“Projects linked to Saudi Vision 2030 are studied and approved according to rules endorsed by the Council of Economic Affairs and Development and announced through the Saudi news agency and the website of Saudi Vision 2030 ,” the source added.
It was not immediately clear who is the developer of the disputed project that purportedly planned to build the Middle East’s biggest Disneyland.
In 2016, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman launched Saudi Vision 2030 with the aim of diversifying the kingdom’s economy and wean it from heavy reliance on oil.
