COVID-19: Saudi Arabia sees steady decline in infections, critical cases
GCC countries account for 18 per cent of overall Middle East infections
Abu Dhabi: Saudi Arabia has been witnessing a steady decrease in COVID-19 infections and critical cases, with 89 new infections reported on average each day. That’s 2 per cent of the peak — the highest daily average reported on June 19.
There have been 546,251 infections and 8,640 coronavirus-related deaths reported in the country since the pandemic began.
The level of critical cases in intensive care has also decreased to 449 cases on Wednesday. On August 31, critical cases in hospitals were 907, but during this September, this number gradually decreased.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, 88 infections and 70 recoveries were reported over the past 24 hours, while the active cases were 2,352.
This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 535,260 and recoveries to 535,260.
Seven more people died due to complications caused by the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of casualties to 8,640.
The number of COVID-19 infections in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region crossed 13 million on September 13, according to Worldometers data.
GCC countries account for 18 per cent or about 2.5 million of overall regional infections, while Iran’s 5.3 million infections make up 39 per cent of the tally.
