Cairo: Saudi police have arrested four Syrian expatriates involved in helping domestic workers to escape from employers, a security official has said.

The suspects had been “involved in misleading the female domestic workers, aiding them to escape and sheltering them” in a flat in eastern Riyadh, assistant spokesman for the Riyadh region’s police Major Khalid Al Karidis said.

The suspects had used social media to publicise a fake company to recruit domestic workers, the official added.

Seven female workers from different nationalities were found staying in the shelter. Police also seized a number of documents, residency permits and an unspecified sum of money inside the flat, Al Karidis added.

Initial investigations showed that the suspects had been previously implicated in similar cases and other areas, he said.
