Qatar: Warning of reimposed curbs amid COVID-19 rise
Hospital admissions up by 85% in January compared to last month
Cairo: Qatari authorities have warned against reimposing health restrictions due to a recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.
The Health Ministry said Sunday that the number of COVID-19 patients, admitted to hospital this month, has increased by 85 per cent compared to the last month.
The ministry stressed the importance of compliance “more than before” with preventive measures to avoid a new wave of the highly contagious ailment, saying it has monitored a steady increase in the number of new infections.
"Act now to prevent a second wave of infections," the ministry tweeted.
Authorities have reminded people of the importance of following precautions to avoid reimposing some restrictions. These precautions include wearing the protective face mask, observing social distancing, shunning crowded places and regular hand washing.
Qatar so far has registered a tally of 150,984 virus cases and 248 related fatalities.
Last month, the country launched a mass vaccination campaign against COVID-19.
