Oman: Vaccine free for residents and citizens in target groups
January will see the arrival of another 28,000 doses
Muscat: The COVID-19 vaccination campaign that kicked off in Oman’s capital yesterday is continuing with vigor across all the governorates in the Sultanate.
Oman’s Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi said that the vaccine will be free for both residents and citizens in the target group.
The Minister also confirmed that the vaccine is distributed to all governorates of the Sultanate, according to the priorities of the eligible groups set by the technical team.
January will see the arrival of another 28,000 doses, Dr. Ahmed informed. With every person taking the vaccine required to have two jabs for effective completion of the vaccination, the first phase is expected to provide inoculation for 7,500 people, including citizens and residents of the Sultanate.
40 centres
The Ministry has announced that the vaccine will be administered at around 40 centres across Oman. Within the Muscat governorate the centres that are open for this are Al Seeb Specialised Polyclinic, Bausher Specialised Polyclinic and Quriyat Polyclinic. While the first two will be open for vaccination daily from 730 in the morning till 8 in the evening, on weekends, the timings are from 930 in the morning till 330 in the evening. The Quriyat Polyclinic is open only during the weekdays from 730 till 230 in the afternoon.
Dr Seif Al-Abri, General Director of Disease Control at the Ministry of Health advised those in the target group to go to the concerned health centre and notify the staff thereof of their condition and commit to taking two shots of the vaccine.
He also brought home the point that taking the vaccination does not mean discontinuing the precautionary measures of washing hands, wearing a mask, and maintaining social distancing. He insisted that these measures should also continue after taking the vaccine doses.
