Frontline workers to be first to get COVID-19 vaccine in Oman
Health workers, police, and military personnel to receive vaccine this year
Dubai: Healthcare workers, police, and military personnel in Oman will be the first to get COVID-19 vaccine once received from the Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunisation (GAVI), local media reported.
Oman’s Ministry of Health announced it has joined the GAVI, which will provide 10 per cent of the required COVID-19 vaccine by the year-end, local media reported.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, said in that statement that Oman will receive 10 per cent of the vaccine from GAVI before the end of this year, and the remaining 10 per cent from other vaccine manufacturers in the same period.
“This means the Sultanate will have 20 per cent of the vaccines before the end of this year. It will be given first to health workers, police, and military personnel who work on the frontline.”
He added that a field hospital is under construction to accommodate patients, reduce the burden on reference hospitals, especially in the Muscat Governorate. It will help restore health services to pre-COVID-19 levels.
Al Hosani said the hospital will not receive patients directly and the cases will be referred to it from health centres and the rest of the hospitals.
