Cairo: Kuwaiti police had arrested a married couple after they had appeared in a contested video deemed immoral in the conservative country, according to media reports.

The footage shows the husband from the country’s stateless Bidoun minority community combing the hair of his Kuwaiti wife who shows off her body and makes salacious comments.

The couple were arrested at their house on Tuesday and face investigations for outraging public morals, the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Qabas reported Wednesday.

Preliminary investigations showed that the couple had deliberately released the “provocative” video to outrage followers and trigger “vituperative criticism” from them with the aim of filing lawsuits against them, Al Qabas said, citing a security source.

“Criminal investigations closely follow up social networking sites and will never allow immoral transgressions that contradict the nature of conservative Kuwaiti society,” the source said.

Last November, a Kuwaiti man was questioned after he announced online a competition for women’s most beautiful legs.
