Man held in Kuwait for knife attack on cops
Suspect branded police as infidels, other institutions ‘corrupt’
Cairo: Kuwaiti police had arrested a man for an attempted knife attack on two security personnel, an official source was quoted as saying Tuesday.
The suspect, a stateless Bedoon person, had been spotted by a police patrol in the area of Jleeb performing prayers next to his car although a nearby mosque was open, the security source added, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Anba.
“Two security men waited until the main finished his prayers. Then, they asked him for his identification card, but he initially refused to show it,” the source said.
When they insisted on seeing the ID card, the man produced a knife and attempted to stab one of them.
“He was brought under control. When he was led into the security patrol, the man kept saying: ‘Police are infidels’,” the source added.
During investigations, the 49-year-old suspect admitted to the knife attack, called police ‘infidels” again and branded other institutions as “corrupt”, the source said.
He faces charges of attacking and slandering police.
