Abu Dhabi: Former Kuwaiti member of parliament Mubarak Al Duwailah and former secretary general of the Kuwait’s Salafi Movement, Hakim Al Mutairi were summoned to the Public Prosecution due to their leaked talks with the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Kuwaiti source said.

Al Duwailah and Al Mutairi are being prosecuted on charges including broadcasting false news and insulting the Emir of Kuwait.

The Emiri Diwan signaled the prosecution of Al Duwailah of the crime of slander against Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, after statements in which the former “Brotherhood” deputy claimed that he had informed the Emir of the country and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques about the contents of his leaked talks with Gaddafi.

Earlier, the former member of the Kuwaiti parliament was released after being interrogated by the State Security Agency over leaked recordings that linked him to the late Libyan leader.

The audio leaks, which revealed a plan to destabilise security in the Gulf region and Egypt, raised controversy on social media platforms over the past days.

Through his Twitter account, Al Duwailah justified what was said during his meeting with Gaddafi. “During the meeting with Gaddafi, we were humouring him, while he was talking to reassure him and know what he was planning, and frankly, we did not dare oppose him while we were in his tent,” he said.

Sheikh Ali Al Jarrah Al Sabah, Minister of Emiri Diwan Affairs, denied statements made by Al Duwailah, in which he claimed that he conveyed to Amir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad what happened between him and Gaddafi. Al Jarrah stressed that Al Duwailah’s statements are completely inaccurate.
