Kuwait: Media staff’s IDs renewed for 3 months

Cairo: The Kuwaiti Information Ministry has decided to extend the identification cards of all employees whose IDs expired on December 31 for three months as a step to devise a mechanism for renewal, according to a media report.

The extension period will end on March 31, Al Jarida newspaper reported, citing what it described as well-informed sources.

The Information Ministry annually renews its workers’ IDs for one year allowing staff changes related to new appointments and sending other employees to retirement, the sources added.

As part of the ministry’s decision, all IDs will be withdrawn from outsiders who cooperate on some programmes depending on work needs, according to the sources.

“The decision to withdraw IDs of collaborators comes after the ministry recently issued a circular asking directors of its departments not to recruit the service of any worker from outside the ministry unless in limited cases starting from 2021,” a source said without details.

In recent months, there has been a vigorous drive in Kuwait to limit the employment of expatriates to create jobs for citizens and redress a demographic imbalance in the country.

Foreigners make up nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait’s 4.8 million population.
