Kuwait: Man gets four years in jail for calling to overthrow the regime

Suspect also charged with sedition and possession of weapon and misusing phone

Dubai: A Twitter user in Kuwait has been sentenced to four years in jail with hard labour for calling to overthrow the regime, Kuwaiti media reported.

The suspect was also fined KD1,000 for defaming the Emir. He was also charged with sedition and possession of weapon and misusing a phone.

The unnamed Kuwaiti had called on Twitter to overthrow the regime, challenged the rights and authority of the Emir, and insulted him. The man has also intentionally misused the telephone.
