Dubai: Kuwait’s Misdemeanour Court of Appeal acquitted a Kuwait female journalist of beating and insulting an actress at the Kuwait International Fairground, local media reported.

The Public Prosecutor charged the journalist with beating the actress on a sensitive part of her body and causing injuries to her as described in the medical report.

Upon investigations, the journalist and the actress exchanged insulting words in a manner that crosses the limits of honour and esteem. The incident happened in a public place, the court papers said.

During the court session, Lawyer Maryam Faisal Al Bahr, the defendant’s lawyer, argued her client was innocent and insisted that the accusations against him were fabricated.

She stressed that the complainant’s statement was not supported by any evidence.

“Therefore, the court cannot rely on the plaintiff’s statement to attribute the incident to her client because of the unsatisfactory her statements which are subject to suspicion and imagination,” the lawyer said.
