Kuwait denounces Turkish, Iranian attacks in Iraq
'Interventions constitute a flagrant violation of Iraq's sovereignty'
Cairo: Kuwait Friday condemned military attacks by Turkey and Iran inside neighbouring Iraq, calling the assaults a "flagrant violation" of the Arab country's sovereignty.
"Emanating from its principled and invariable position rejecting any interventions infringing sovereignty of any of the Arab countries, Kuwait emphasises its condemnation of recent Turkish and Iranian interventions in northern Iraq," an official source at the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said, according to the news agency KUNA.
"Those interventions constitute a flagrant violation of Iraq's sovereignty and ignore all international norms and legal rules, in addition to posing a threat to Iraq's security and the region's stability," the source added.
The source said Kuwait stands by Iraq and backs all its measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security and stability.
Kuwait maintains good ties with both Iran and Turkey. Relations have recently grown between Kuwait and Iraq, ending years of strains resulting from Saddam Hussein's 1990 invasion of the emirate.
