Awqaf Ministry dismisses as baseless claims of hiring foreigner as adviser
Cairo: Kuwait’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has denied reports that it has recently appointed a foreigner as an adviser as the country is seeking to limit employment of migrants.
Claims have recently circulated on social media that a mosque imam holding an Arab nationality has been appointed as an adviser at the office of the Awqaf Ministry’s undersecretary.
The ministry dismissed the claims as baseless.
“Everyone should seek preciseness in what is published and posted on social media, avoid rumours and not to contribute to the spread of incorrect information,” the ministry said, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Jarida.
Foreigners make up nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait’s 4.8 million population.
In recent months, there have been increasing calls in Kuwait for curbing foreigners’ employment to redress a demographic imbalance amid accusations that migrant workers have strained the country’s infrastructure facilities.
