Kuwait announces Eid Al Fitr will start on Thursday

Kuwait City: Kuwait has announced that the last day of Ramadan will be on Wednesday and therefore the first day of Eid Al Fitr will be on Thursday.

Worshippers will be allowed to pray the Eid prayer in mosques across Kuwait, which will be held at 5:12am, as long as they adhere to health measures which are: wearing face masks, social distancing and using their own prayer carpet. The prayers are limited to men only. No women or children are allowed to attend the prayer.

Lifting restrictions

Coinciding with the first day of Eid, Kuwait will be lifting the two-month long partial curfew at 1am on Thursday.

In addition, cinemas will be opening their doors after being closed for over a year, but only for those who have been vaccinated.

Despite the curfew being lifted, all commercial activities will have to close from 8pm to 5am daily, except supermarkets, pharmacies and delivery services for restaurants and cafes. Indoor dining at restaurants and cafes remain closed until further notice, which will likely be after the Eid holiday.

Public holiday

Kuwait has officially announced that the Eid Al Fitr holiday will be for five days, starting Wednesday, May 12. Regular working hours will resume on Monday, May 17.

Once the public holiday is over, a cap of 60 per cent has been set for private and public sector employees working in the office.
