COVID-19: Kuwaitis and expats under home quarantine can travel abroad
Valid residency permits necessary for domestic workers’ return to Kuwait
Cairo: There are no restrictions on Kuwaitis and expatriates, under domestic quarantine, wishing to travel abroad, an official source at the Kuwait International Airport has said.
“The airport authorities have no objection to the travel of any person during the 14-day home quarantine as long as that person has not shown any sign of the new coronavirus,” the source told Al Qabas newspaper.
Arrivals in Kuwait are required to present a document showing a negative result of the virus-detecting PCR test. They are also required to sign a pledge of spending 14 days in domestic or institutional isolation.
Flight ban
In August, Kuwaiti authorities announced suspending flights from dozens of countries, citing health concerns over the spread of COVID-19. Many domestic workers have been unable to return to Kuwait as a result of the flight ban on their home countries.
Domestic workers coming from those countries holding valid residency permits can enter Kuwait, but only after spending 14 days in another non-banned country, the source told Al Qabas.
“So far, there is no change in the list of the banned countries,” the source added.
There has been a shortage of domestic workers in Kuwait after the country stopped issuing new recruitment visas.
