Philippines: Magnitude 4.3 earthquake jolts offshore Davao Occidental in Mindanao

Manila: A Magnitude 4.3 earthquake jolted the sea south of the main Philippine island of Mindanao on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The quake’s epicentre was detected 308 km south-easte of Balut Island, part of Sarangani Municipality, in Davao Occidental at around 1.41 pm (9.41 UAE) at a depth of 26 km.

There were no immediate reports of damage or tsunami.

Phivolcs stated the tremor is an aftershock of the magnitude 7.0 offshore Davao Occidental Earthquake event on January 18, 2023.

As of 3.34 pm local time on Monday, three other earthquakes were detected, the latest of which is a magnitude 1.2 tremor that struck 5km north-est of Rodriguez town in the province of Rizal, near Manila.

A magnitude 2.3 quake was detected at 6am east of Surigao Del Norte 58km northeast of Burgos town, followed by a 2.1 magnitude tremor at 6.50am in about the same area.
