UAE to help rebuild homes for flood-hit families in Pakistan’s Sindh province
UAE ambassador and Sindh CM emphasise importance of enhancing bilateral trade
Islamabad: The UAE has extended help to assist the administration of Pakistan’s Sindh province in building homes for the victims of the devastating floods in 2022, which killed more than 1,700 people and affected around 33 million people.
The announcement followed a meeting in Karachi between Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah and UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al Zaabi on Saturday. The meeting was also attended by Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, the UAE Consul General in Karachi, and Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, special assistant to Sindh CM.
During the meeting, the UAE ambassador assured the Sindh chief minister of their support and commitment to assisting the provincial government in building homes for the flood victims, according to the statement from the chief minister’s office and confirmed by the UAE embassy. “The Sindh chief minister and the UAE ambassador have reached an agreement on the project and the details are expected to be finalised soon,” the embassy spokesperson said in a message to reporters.
The two officials also agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations and trade between the countries. The UAE ambassador highlighted the interest of UAE industrialists in investing in Sindh, demonstrating the potential for economic collaboration and growth.
Pakistan maintains strong diplomatic, economic, and defence relations with the UAE.
