Saudi minister arrives in Islamabad in a bid to diffuse cross-border tension

Al Jubeir will meet Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Pakistani counterpart Quraishi

ISLAMABAD: Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir arrived here Thursday in a bid to help defuse the tense situation between Pakistan and India.

The Saudi Minister’s visit is the follow-up of Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman’s visit to Pakistan, the Foreign Office said. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Quraishi received the Saudi minister on his arrival at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Al Jubeir during his daylong visit will also hold important meetings with the country’s political leadership.

Al Jubeir will meet Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Pakistani counterpart Quraishi to discuss bilateral matters and regional situation. He was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad last week, but later delayed his visit, Geo News reported. Quraishi had said Al Jubeir was coming to Pakistan with an “important message” from the Saudi Crown Prince who had visited the country in February.

During his visit, the Crown Prince had said: “It feels [like] home in Pakistan ... We believe in Pakistan’s future, we believe that Pakistan has huge opportunities. In 2030, Pakistan will be next to two huge economies, China and India.”
