Post offices in Pakistan to go digital by December 2022: Minister
Minister promises swift, reliable postal services at cheaper rates
Karachi: The federal government has announced that the process of computerisation of all post offices in the country will be completed by December 2022.
This was announced by Federal Communications Minister, Maulana Asad Mahmood, while speaking at a ceremony to give motorcycles along with their ownership rights to postmen at Multan General Post Office (GPO).
Earlier, the government completed the process of computerisation of all the GPOs in the country mainly for digitising their records.
Director-General of Pakistan Post, Rana Akhtar Hussain, told the ceremony that the process of digitisation was being adopted at every stage of the postal services from booking to delivery of letters and parcels.
He said that after digitisation people would get swift and reliable postal services at much cheaper rates as compared to the higher service charges of the private courier companies.
He said the process of disbursal of pensions of the retired government employees and saving bank facilities through the post offices were also being re-launched after digitisation of these services.
The Communications Minister said that motorcycles along with ownership rights were being given to postmen all over the country for the swift delivery of posts.
He said that over 600 digital franchise post offices had been opened in the region of Southern Punjab alone so that the people in faraway areas got postal services without difficulty.
He mentioned that some 600 post offices, which had been closed during the past regime were also being reopened.
The postmen who received motorcycles on the occasion were also given cellular smartphones with special applications for timely and accurate delivery of the post.
The Communications Minister also launched a special counter at the GPO Multan established jointly by the National Database and Registration Authority and Pakistan Post for the renewal of the computerised national identity cards and corrections of their data.
He also inaugurated an exhibition of special commemorative postage stamps.
